Update from the “Lower Ranges"

It’s the start of another summer shooting season and time for an update on the CSA “Lower Ranges".

Almost 100% of our members utilize the Pistol Range or Short Range at some time during the year. That makes these ranges very busy during certain periods. Please remember to observe the safety rules at all times and be especially vigilant when the ranges are more crowded.

If you haven’t already noticed, we have new, adjustable stools for the benches on the Short Range. Brian Cisar fabricated these for us last year. Thanks Brian. He did such a nice job on them, I decided that they deserved a coat of paint and some varnish. They should service us for a long time to come.

All our facilities are maintained with volunteer help. Each member can help make these maintenance tasks easier by picking up after themselves after a shooting session. Place trash in the barrels, brass in the brass barrel. Even sweeping up those pesky little 22LR cases helps keep the ranges looking nice.

The lower ranges are used mainly for ‘open shooting’ by our members and guests. However, we do run a few events during the year. The Deer Hunting Sight-in / Training, the Dodge County Bar Association Schuetzenfest / Training Program, NRL22 matches during the winter months, the Winter Bullseye Pistol League, and the CSA Classic Rimfire Match are a few of the events.

Looking forward, some of you may have heard rumors of a Short-Range upgrade project. We are currently in the planning phase of this project. This phase involves working out the details of the project and working with various government entities to obtain the required permits, etc. When this phase is completed, more details will be available. In general, the project will involve expanding the width of the range and shooting house to allow shooting from any of 10 benches (as opposed to 8 today) to any yardage (25,50,100,200). There will be many opportunities for members to get their work hours in while helping make this project a reality.

That’s about all I have for now. Shoot for the ‘X’ ring and have a great summer.
