2024 Year in Review

A Year in Review from CSA President, Larry Haseman

As the year winds down and we enjoy the Holiday Season we look back and recall the events of 2024. A successful year for sure. The weekends are generally active from April through October, but still allowing ample range time for open shooting. October and November you will always find someone preparing their equipment and improving their skills for an enjoyable deer hunt or shooting competition.

The first shooting activity each year is our .22 pistol league with about 26 shooters, we had great weather. We quickly moved into trap with our spring with the 2-man, 6-week league, and ended the year with 2-man, 6-week fall league. Keeping in mind that we have open trap every Thursday throughout the year. The long range was active with Precision Rifle Shooting (PRS) holding several events as did the Bench rest shooters, and the Long-Range Monday Night League (Saturday in the winter months). NLR22 holds monthly shoot and Action rifle holds Tuesday night shoots in the summer months. Rimfire challenge in the fall is always a big success. Archery activities have become more of a youth program using the outdoor range as well as the indoor range.

One of the goals has been to increase education activities or event, which include Hunters Safety Education, Dodge County Bar shoot, Sight-in clinics (both long and short range). Classes were also available for casting bullets, first aid, firearm care and cleaning, and reloading.

CSA also has hosted events on the trap range: an Alzheimer fund raiser, the Columbkille trap shoot, and Prairie Ridge Hospital shoot.

The Short Range is the most used range at CSA. Plans were reviewed to upgrade the range. The project will allow us to add 3 or 4 more benches. The biggest improvement will be that we will be able to shoot at 25, 50, 100, and 200 from any bench. The plan to move forward was put on hold in 2024 due to a personal injury that limited me from being at the range to move the project along. We should be back on target for 2025.

I would like to thank all the members that volunteered their time supporting the activities of CSA. As you know, CSA has no paid individuals or employees and without the help of the volunteers who step up to help at events, mow the grass, run a weed eater, help with needed repairs, or help with the trash and anything else that come up, we would have a very hard time doing what we do. Typically, 30-35% of the membership qualifies for the $125 savings at the time of membership renewals, again I say thank you.

Looking forward, our goal remains the same, Be safe, Have fun and invite others to see what we have.

Larry Haseman, President
